Backstage Pass

from Dazed and Confused
Two beautiful books featuring backstage/intimate photos of bands and artists were released the last 3 months.

Family is the name of Lauren Dukoff's book - a native Californian based photographer who was first given a camera at the age of 12 by her father. She grew up following family around on various film projects that her father was working on. Her resume boasts such claims as shooting for the cover of Rolling Stones Germany and Tokyo. Her photos have also appeared in Dazed, Nylon, Spin and other noteworthy magazines.

An intimate new photography book, Backstage by Valérie Jodoin Keaton gives a chance to us (ordinary people) to see favourite rock stars in those precious minutes before or after they perform. She captured Beck, Rufus Wainwright, Smashing Pumpkins, the Dandy Warhols, M.I.A., Jack White and dozens more. spending so much time backstage herself is how she became fascinated with capturing those fleeting, human moments that unravel there when nobody’s watching. “The backstage is a timeless space of isolation. Right before performing the subject is so focused on himself that his authenticity shines through... You can see into their souls a little bit,” she explains.
